Be the Cause

Song commemorating Tsunami Victims in 2006 (Dec. 26th Anniversary)

Dear ones,

I heard this song…redone by the Used or Chemical Romance (They actually sang this in Buffalo, NY to remember the tragedy of the Dec. 26th, 2004 Tsunami) This song was originally Performed by Queen and a great version is with David Bowie and Queen.

I started crying…thinking of so much lost during the Tsunami that hit shores of India, Sri Lanka, E. Africa.

I don’t know if this goes under inspirational…just brought me back to such loss and the fact that we’ll be travelling to Sri Lanka soon to see where the Tsunami hit…amazing…and I’m feeling ahead of time=the loss of life, homes, land that was experienced…I guess the lyrics here that hit me the most are: WHY WHY WHY?

Under Pressure by David Bowie/Queen

Mm ba ba de
Um bum ba de
Um bu bu bum da de
Pressure pushing down on me
Pressing down on you no man (woman, child) ask for
Under pressure – that burns a building down
Splits a family in two
Puts people on streets
Um ba ba be
Um ba ba be
De day da
Ee day da – that’s o.k.
It’s the terror of knowing
What the world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming ‘Let me out’
Pray tomorrow – gets me higher
Pressure on people – people on streets
Day day de mm hm
Da da da ba ba
O.k.
Chippin’ around – kick my brains around the floor
These are the days it never rains but it pours
Ee do ba be
Ee da ba ba ba
Um bo bo
People on streets – ee da de da de
People on streets – ee da de da de da de da
It’s the terror of knowing
What this world is about
Watching some good friends
Screaming ‘Let me out’
Pray tomorrow – gets me higher high high
Pressure on people – people on streets
Turned away from it all like a blind man (woman, child)
Sat on a fence but it don’t work
Keep coming up with love
but it’s so slashed and torn
Why – why – why ?
Love love love love love
Insanity laughs under pressure we’re cracking
Can’t we give ourselves one more chance
Why can’t we give love that one more chance
Why can’t we give love give love give love give love
give love give love give love give love give love
‘Cause love’s such an old fashioned word
And love dares you to care for
The people on the edge of the night
And loves dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves
This is our last dance
This is our last dance
This is ourselves
Under pressure
Under pressure

Poems by our children: “City of One—young writers speak to the world”

Just wanted to share some of this poetry from this book “in title line” with you. Thought u’d appreciate like I do:

Sending

I’m sending a check to my mom so she can go to a
better college.
I’m sending a peace flag to Iraq.

I’m sending food and food stamps to the poor.
I’m sending my mom and dad home from work to rest
because they work too much.

I’m sending education to the world,
and homes to the poor.

I’m sending strength to the disabled,
and responsibility to the youth.

I’m sending light to the night.
I’m sending my neighborhood art
because it needs to be colorful.

And I’m sending my neighborhood peace.

-Peter Amaya, 12.

The Healing

With my healing hands I will cure
every disease in the world,
so people won’t have to worry.

With my healing hands I will erase
racism, prejudice, and sexism,
turn them into three more stars
in the sky.

-Susan Sandoval, 13

The Sweater

A sweater washed away by the rain
settled near a front porch
where an old woman lived.

When the sun rose
the woman came out and found the sweater
and took it inside.

She said to herself
that the sweater had sheltered other people
from the harsh weather of the past,
so she washed and fixed it

the sweater came from the wool
of a sheep.
It warmed the sheep, she thought, and people too,
and many journeys carried the sweater to her.
Now the old sweater was ready
for another journey.
