Be the Cause is a Network of individuals who not only wish to make a difference in the world, but also wish to change their own lives in the process. Realizing that change must first begin with ourselves, each project that Be the Cause coordinates meets a clearly defined need, but also gives participating volunteers an opportunity to be inspired and feel fulfilled. What first started as a few friends meeting on a regular basis has now grown to one of the largest volunteer-run social networks with close to 8,000 members world-wide. Be the Cause has organized over 200 projects in numerous countries all through the efforts of volunteers alone. This force of volunteers, according to the US Government metrics, has contributed over $1M dollars to the global economy. Despite the ever growing numbers, the focus of Be the Cause is still the same today as it was in the beginning, to create meaningful opportunities of service. Volunteers, when they become part of the network can either initiate new projects of their own, or participate in projects already currently under-way in their local area. MovementMovement. It is the process in which we transition from one place to another. It symbolizes change. Every single person on this planet is engaged in some form of movement. Some people move their lives in a direction towards fear, greed, or suffering. That movement then becomes visible in the form of wars, corporate scandals, and outright unhappiness. Our lives are temporary here. We are like wind, arising only to pass away. The only question that matters is in which direction are we moving? Are we moving towards love? Love is not something that is taught to us. We don't learn it in our schools, at our jobs, at the shopping malls, or in our TV shows. Love, which is indisputably the most important thing in life, is the one thing that we forget to cultivate in our daily routines. We cannot say that we know what Love is; we too have come here to learn. We hope that we have not come here to take anything, but rather to offer the world a piece of our own hearts... thereby teaching ourselves how to love. As a fully volunteer-run network, we have no paid staff and no office space. We are comprised of individuals who believe that what we do, what we say, and what we think starts a profound cause and effect chain reaction in the world we live in. Volunteers in numerous cities work together to coordinate various projects and to genuinely move to a place of greater good. Be the Cause, at best, is a reminder of the things that matter most in life; as a metaphor for the movement that we are all engaged in. By laying one foot on the ground the other follows. Only by beginning can we move forward. What's in a Name? The name "Be the cause" was chosen because it reflects the personal nature of the philosophy: each individual can participate in the cause and effect relationships of the universe and can influence any set of circumstances in their environment. The title also reflects our association with the various causes of the world. BTC is not solely focused on any one single aspect of progress but rather represents a larger world view. While all the pieces are important, BTC felt that there needed to be a place where all the pieces could come together, "as individual strands of thread get woven into a beautiful tapestry". |
